Drawing Process

At the SUHU art studio some weeks back we were taught the necessary processes involved in drawing as an artist. These processes quite simple are the basic fundamentals which guide an artist to create a perfect painting or work of art.
The first step looked at was to identify what the artist would like to paint. This can also be known as the idea. This idea requires a very good and thorough analysis to understand the elements of the work going to be produced and how to achieve the desired expression and results from the work.
The next step was gathering materials for the work. Examples of these materials include paint, frames, canvas, etc. These various materials are the tools needed by the artist to create or make real his ideas and thoughts. Some of these tools require an amount of calculation for instance with the frame it is necessary to know the size your art work is going to be so you construct the frame accordingly with all corners at precisely a 90 degrees.
Choosing a canvas is also very necessary since every canvas gives its own effect on the painting. After choosing the canvas it is necessary to choose the suitable finish for the canvas used. This is necessary since every canvas requires a specific finish to give it its desirable and aesthetic look for the painting.
We were also able to see some students work on a poster for a Nando's competition. Their works were based around the image or idea of a chicken since the restaurant is noted for its good chicken.
These students exhibited various art techniques based on their ideas to require a desirable result. This helped us understand more about the drawing process since this served as a very practical example.
In a sum total it is very necessary as an artist to be able to create and understand all these processes since they serve as perfect guidelines to producing a good painting.
