Principles of Marketing

Mug Cakes

So after a couple of experiments I came out with my own products finally.

Principles of Marketing

With the tutor still away we had more work to finish. We had to come up with a product name for the product.
Many names came up, some of the names were rotan ( basket ), rotan boy, bag and pack up. We settled for pack up since it relates best with the purpose of the product.
After we reviewed the strengths and weaknesses of the product. Some strengths are, it makes carrying of load easy and could be reused for other purposes.
Some weaknesses were that it would be expensive to produce in some parts of the world and that the attaching and detaching of the straps could be quite cumbersome,
We were also to identify our international market, such as the U.S.A. , France, China and Ghana based on population size and our target audiences.

With our tutor away we were giving some group assignments to finish. In this assignment we had to we had to select some objects from a list of objects which included a fowl, basket, banana, bicycle and a bell. From these objects we were supposed to select three objects and feel free to add one from outside the list to create either a product or service. My peers chose their various objects and came out with various ideas such as a bicycle with bells on it being with a couple of fowls tied to it as a means of transport, another was a bicycle with bells which was used to sell flowers in baskets.
I on the other hand picked the basket, fowl and banana, knowing how this was going to be very hard to come out with either a product or service I chose it anyway.
I came out with a fast food product, the banana processed into a shake, the chicken either fried or cooked and the basket designed in different shapes to look like back packs for easy carrying of food bought especially for those who buy a lot since polythene bags easily get torn with too much load.
The baskets could be used also by market vendors who sell a lot of food produce this would help their customers find it easy carrying what they buy.
At the end of the day my idea was chosen by my peers as the product we were all going to work with.

My Product

Unlike my mates I decided to come out with my own product. This product is mug cakes. As the name name implies these are cakes made in mugs, they are more like extra large cup cakes.
The reason why I chose to make these products is that, these are just home based cakes made to satisfy everyday cravings for cake when they could be put on the market for everyone to have a bite to help them satisfy their cravings as well.
After identifying what I wanted to do I moved on to researching on how to make the desired products.

What is Principles of Marketing ?

Principles of marketing is a module designed to teach students basic techniques on how to sell out their products. These products could be an already existing product or a new product you plan on putting on the Market.
Students are to come out with their own products or re-branding an already existing product. They should also be able to determine their target audiences in order to help them know the right means of marketing and attracting the set target audience.
At the end of the day students would have to come out with logos for branding, packaging and advertisement based on what they plan on marketing based on the strength and weaknesses of the product.
