Colour 2 and 3 Dimensions and Writing for Designers

Mind Mapping

After reading the book and following the information I acquired, the next thing I did before I begun documenting my work was mind mapping, this helped me know where I have to begin and how I should end my documentation.

Colour 2 and 3 Dimensions and Writing for Designers

For writing for designers we had to first read some books which we found in our school library which would aid or assist us in knowing where to start when documenting your work. From the book Building Design Portfolios, Innovative Concepts for Presenting Your Work by Sara Eisenman, made me understand that it is important to know what you want to do and know how to arrange them in such a way that what you do not miss anything. You should know what comes first and what should come last before you start documenting.

Preparing the Cabinet

After testing out your colour paste, the next step is to allow the canvas dry and also think about how you are going to exhibit your results. Usually this is done by using a cabinet.
A cabinet is a wooden frame which is used to exhibit ones work. This cabinet should be designed and sketched out first so you can have an idea of how the layout is going to be. This is what was done here and we came out with our very own cabinet.
In addition to the designing of the cabinet you should also construct the cabinet after. Firstly you would have to select suitable wood strong enough to fit the purpose it is being constructed for. After you would have to make sure that you measure the dimensions of your cabinet and cut off excess wood which is not needed.
After you construct the cabinet making sure all the joints are firmly put together. The cabinet should be in constructed in a way such that a portion of it is used to exhibit the tested pigment paste, another showing the raw pigment and the last the powdered form of the pigment after grinding. For the exhibition of the paste pigments on canvas, metal wires or threads or ropes can be fixed into the cabinet so the canvas can hang on them. For the raw pigment and powder form shelf like platforms are to be made so the jars can sit on them.
After constructing the full cabinet it is necessary for you to paint or apply some finishing to the wood to make it look attractive also. After doing this you can hang out your cabinet and label what the sections are for, you can go on to fix in your work to be exhibited and your exhibition set to go.

Testing

After making the paste you test it by applying it on some canvas and allowing it to dry up.

Colour 2 and 3 Dimensions and Writing for Designers

Making the colour into paste.

In making the colour into paste you would need the following;

  glue
  water
  a bowl
  a brush
  a spatula

In addition to these items you would also need a canvas cut into smaller square pieces on which you are going to test your paint or paste on.
Making the powdered pigments into paste is quite a simple task. First you pour the powder in a bowl then after you add a sufficient amount of glue, then you pour in some water mix with an electric mixer to get a smooth paste and in a few minutes your paste or paint is ready to be tested on the canvas. You can either use the brush or the spatula to spread the paint on the canvas.

Principles of Marketing

Website

After making my logos, icons and tag lines, I begun to sketch idea for my website. This helped me to structure my website in a way which my target audience would prefer according to their researched preferences. My website has a lot of images since my target audience are mostly excited also I tried to keep it as simple as possible so the do not get too bored.

Principles of Marketing

Icon and tag line 2

After making my first icon and tag line I had to go back to the sketch board and create new icons and tag lines. My icon retained the original design however it had color preferences of my target audience. My tag line was changed from " all your tasties in on place " to " simply mugged-nificent " which was much better than the previous. This was my final attempt on my icon and tag line.

Principles of Marketing

Icons and Tag lines

After making my logo I went on to gather ideas for my icon and tag lines. My first icon was against the color preference of my target audience and immediately I had to develop a new one. My first tag line was " all your tasties in one place " which wasn't satisfactory enough and had to create a new tag line as well.

Principles of Marketing

Final Logo

My final logo was based on the designs of my previous designs of logos but with less detail so the audience can concentrate more on the logo and not on the irrelevant additions.

Principles of Marketing

Logo 3

I made another design for a set of logos hoping they would be the final design for my logos. They were more simple but had too many details which are not necessary for the logo so again I had to make another set of logos.
